Set up the custom email sender

Alejandra Vasquez Mendez

On this section, we assume you are technically savvy and have access to your domain provider's DNS records.

Let’s begin to understand what’s a personalized sender:

The personalized sender is the complete email address used to send your email campaigns; for example, nombre@tuempresa.com. This type of personalized sender domains are better interpreted in the delivery process and strengthen your brand image with customers and readers. For more information on personalized sender and terminology you can read the article in this link: https://mdtr.io/KBgwS

How to authenticate custom email sender domain?

The following is a simple description of the steps that must be carried out to configure the email address of the sender's adrdress in which the email advertising campaigns would be sent through Director

By default, MDirector adds a generic sender's address with a domain that belongs to MDirector. If the steps indicated in this document are carried out, it will be possible for the sender's address to be the same as the client's domain. The subdomain can also be configured so that the links of the sendings appear masked with the name of the client instead of that of MDirector.

To learn more about the advantages of having a personalized sender, you can read the article in this link: https://mdtr.io/KXEZD

Requirements

To be able to set up the personalized sender it is necessary to have access to the Host server and the ability to edit the TXT records. Without this access any modifications are impossible.

We recommend setting up a subdomain to be used specifically for sending your campaigns through MDirector. This way you can use the same From you were using on other systems and the subdomain will be used for the Sender (mailed-by). If you also wish to mask the tracked links with a subdomain you will need to configure the CNAME records.

Actions

The process is split into two phases:

Firstly, the Client´s DNS administrator should set up the records as laid out in the three entries below.

Secondly, MDirector administrators will then have to perform a number of actions, which can only be done after first phase has been set up correctly.

Phase 1 (On the client's side)

The process carried out by the client consists of creating three records in the Host for the domain or subdomain that they want to set up (mydomain.com or news.mydomain.com).

The first four entries are MANDATORY, the fifth only in case you want to use the masking of the links with the subdomain.

For its configuration, you must access your DNS domain server and follow these steps:

ENTRY 1 (MANDATORY): SPF configuration

For Example: news.mydomain.com
TXT Record: "v=spf1 mx include:_pmta2.antevenio.com -all“ SPF.PNG

ENTRY 2 (MANDATORY): DKIM configuration

For example: _domainkey.news.mydomain.com
TXT record: "t=y; o=~; “DKIM_domainkey.PNG

ENTRY 3 (MANDATORY): DKIM configuration

For example: md2._domainkey.news.mydomain.com
TXT Record:
"k=rsa;p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQC8kEawWuxFFx7H5/dDPKfVTpegh8q5zagJ0YxHqSaOdN0cxOdApKFInZdG4i0sRw9uIAu3PdvAMkwILI6dbEcEV+/IIBfa4q70PLR93VX9e5COgE1CTyN6gY0GZwnTcs7SupPRRsL3MiAjHJWzQDVetgsUgMTUgmhNpRNSqanfMwIDAQAB“
(Please, double check that this entry contains no spaces or blanks in any position)DKIM_md2_domainkey.PNG

ENTRY 4 (MANDATORY): DMARC configuration

The DMARC, or Domain Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance for its acronym in English, completes and authenticates both the SPF and the DKIM; that is, it verifies that the two previous authentications are correct. Y is a TXT record entry.

For Example: _dmarc.midominiopersonalizado.com

Registro TXT = "v=DMARC1; p=none"

We recommend starting with "p=none" in the DMARC registry. For more information go to this link: https://mdtr.io/U8yqN.

ENTRY 5 (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

Configuration of the CNAME record (in case you want to mask the links of your campaigns with the subdomain):
For Example: track.midominio.com
Registro CNAME = track.mdrctr.com

NOTE: It is obbligatory to configure the link tracking with a secure subdomain (https). To do this, you must provide MDirector with an SSL certificate that lasts at least one year.

ENTRY 5 (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

Alignment of the "FROM" and the Return-Path, for this, the steps in the following article must be followed.

We leave you a list of popular domain providers, click on the name of your provider to see the instructions on how to edit the DNS records, if your provider doesn't appear in the list, you must access the website of your provider and / or check with your technical team:

GoDaddy

Hostgator

Google Domains

Raiola: GuiaVideo

Arsys

Amazon Web Services: Configuración DNStipos de registros de recursos

Namecheap

Squarespace

Wordpress

Wix

Bluehost Bluerock

Bluehost Legacy

Dreamhost

Hover

IONOS

Stablehost

Siteground

The tracking is configured with a different subdomain than that of the custom sender, meaning that the configuration for custom sender subdomains is different from that for tracking.

Phase 2 (On the MDirector's side)

Once these authentication protocols have been configured by your side, you must contact our support team by sending a ticket to support@mdirector.com so that our technicians can check that all the records are configured correctly.

In order for the team to help efficiently, please note that the ticket must contain the following:

  • Name/Number of your MDirector account
  • Name/Number of the subaccount in which you want to add the cutom sender
  • The full email address you want to add as a custom sender (including the domain/subdomain you just set up): name@mycustomdomain.com
