How to Upload Contacts to MDirector?

Ivan Nieto

The first thing to do when importing contacts is to understand how contacts are managed in MDirector (in MDirector, a contact consists of an email address and/or a mobile phone number).

The contact management feature in MDirector uses lists to organize contacts and their corresponding information. Different lists can be created to manage contacts. To create contact lists, you must go to the "Email Marketing" section:

Once inside, you’ll need to enter the "Suscribers" tab, click on the "Create Contact List" button and assign a name to the new list:

Find out how to manage your contact lists in the following link: https://mdtr.io/WNEpt

Once the list is created, you can start importing contacts. Before importing contacts, you can learn about the standard fields and how to create custom fields in MDirector by clicking in the following link: https://mdtr.io/p0T0T

On MDirector there are different ways to import your contacts. You’ll be able to find these by clicking on the list you’ve created and then clicking on the "Choose an option" dropdown, where three import options are shown:

1) Import contacts:

This option is used to import contacts in bulk from documents in Excel, CSV or TXT format:

Before selecting the file you want to import, verify that the file format is one of these 3 options:

  • Excel (any version)
  • CSV (in UTF-8 and comma delimited)
  • TXT

If the file has named columns, check the option "The file has named columns" (as it appears in the image above).

To know in which format the "Mobile" field has to appear you can review this article and follow the indications so that you do not have any error when uploading your database https://mdtr.io/drSvI.  o add values in the Gender, Date, Country and Province of the contacts review this article to know the formats and values accepted in these fields https://mdtr.io/2ziFl

When you upload a DB to a list in MDirector, if there are contacts that are already uploaded, these will be updated with the information that appears in the last DB keeping the fields that they already had and their reputation, as well as their labels. If you want all the fields to be deleted and only the new ones to be uploaded, you can check the box "delete contacts and replace them with the new ones".

Finally, if you want the tags of the existing contacts to be replaced when importing, you should check the option "replace the tags of duplicate contacts".

Next, the default and custom fields must match those found in our database, before clicking "Continue":

Once the import has been carried out, you’ll be shown an import report where you’ll be able to check the contacts that have been imported, those that have been modified because they were already on this list, the addresses that have failed or are unsubscribed, etc.:

You can also download the import report to find out which addresses are erroneous, failed (bounced) or cancelled, being necessary to click on the "Download Report" button. This can be downloaded in a zip consisting of different Excel documents where you’ll be able to find these contacts.

2) Manual Upload:

This option allows you to import a contact manually by completing each of the contact fields:

3) Copy and paste:

This option allows you to import a list of emails or phone numbers separated by commas:
