Email Marketing Templates

Alejandra Vasquez Mendez

In MDirector, you can design email creatives from the "Templates" section and/or from step 3 (design) when creating a send. However, it's important to note that this "Templates" tab is only available for paid users. Free users can only access their saved creatives and save new creatives from the email send creation process.

1. Templates Design from the Templates section

By creating, designing and saving a template in this section, you’ll be able to access and use/reuse them in your next Campaign.

You can import a template with an HTML file or from a ZIP. You have the following options:

  • Zip = HTML + Images
  • Choose a basic template that provides you with a “blank” structure to edit each of its elements
  • Or choose an MDirector themed template, where you can create your own custom templates from predefined layouts.

Whichever editor you use, all templates have at the top:

    - A button to send a test email

    - A button to save the template

    - ID: the alphanumeric string that identifies the template

    - Name: created by you to better identify your templates

2. Templates Design from the Templates section

In step 2 of creating your Campaign, you can choose to design a new template or edit one that’s been saved previously:

Selecting a new template will take you to the templates section, where you can:

  • Import a template with an HTML file or from a ZIP
  • Pick a basic template
  • Choose a themed template with a predefined but editable design and style
  • Or select a design from “My Templates”, which will contain all those created and saved in the “Templates” section

Once you pick the kind of template you want to work on, the MDirector Editor will open (either the Drag & Drop Editor or the HTML Editor) (WYSIWYG).

- Save a creative as a Template

If you’re editing a mailout and think the design would work as a template for future campaigns, you can use the “Save as template” button to add the design to the “Templates” section. Once there, you can use it as many times as you want, as well as edit or delete it if you wish.

- HTML creatives

When making creatives with HTML, it’s important to note that the process of creating HTML for email is a little different from when making a web page. This is because HTML for email has certain technical requirements to avoid errors and ensure it displays correctly, and because the level of compatibility with HTML and CSS standards varies greatly between email servers and clients.

To help with this, we’ve put together an article that we recommend you read before making your own HTML creatives: https://mdtr.io/H0Cmx

- Template Tests

If you want to test whether the templates display correctly, it’s best to do so directly from the step 4 of the Campaign Section "Test".
