How do I create dynamic content and use it in my campaigns?

María Rico

The process of dynamic content creation has 3 main steps; planning, creation and send.

  1. Planning
  2. Create dynamic content
  3. Include them in the Email campaigns

1. Planning

Before creating your dynamic content, we advise that you thoroughly plan the areas that you want to be dynamic in, as well as, the email that you are going to send, it´s content, and the specific target groups it is intended for.

Adittional Advice: we recommend that you first create a test list with fictitious contacts to run your tests. https://mdirector.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204971411-Creating-a-test-list-to-view-my-dynamic-content

MDirector offers you 2 ways in which to customize your campaigns with dynamic content:

- If you consider yourself an advanced user and want to put the conditions of the dynamic content directly into the HTML of your campaign creative without the need to previously define the blocks of content, you can do it. You have all the necessary information at your disposal to be able to create these contents.

How to create advance dynamic content (HTML)? https://mdirector.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204972691-Advanced-Dynamic-Content-HTML

- The second option gives you, in a very easy way, the possibility of creating areas or blocks of content, with conditions based on the values of the custom fields in your contact lists. That way you can introduce these dynamic contents into your templates afterwards.

In this section we will show you how to do it a second way.

Do you have everything planned and your test list ready? Ok, let´s start!

2. Creating dynamic content

Let´s start by creating our first content and the conditions to make it dynamic.

1. Click on the  My Contents option in the Email/SMS Marketing section of the side menu.

2. In My Contents you will be able create content and make then dynamic.

3. Click on the button Create content and give it a name.

4. If you wish, you can add a default text that will be seen by all of your subscribers.

5. Now add the conditions to make this content dynamic and change the social demographic according to information of your subscribers. Click on the button Add Condition.

6. A block of content will open with the four elements of a condition or rules, they are:

FieldsFields: It contains the name of the fields of your database, including the customized ones. Using them you can personalize the blocks of content.

Operators:The list of operators varies depending on the type of field selected.

The field values are used to determine which subscribers will see this content.

ContentThis is the content that will be displayed to a subscriber who meets the required attributes that you have defined.

You can add more attributes by clicking on the Icon + which will join with AND.

Add more conditions by clicking on the button Add Condition. Add as many as you want and include the characteristics of your subscribers in them.

Some of the fields contain defined codes, see the article Code table: country, province, gender and date https://mdirector.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204780612-Table-of-Codes-Country-State-Gender-and-Date to know which value to assign to each field.

When you finish, click on Save content area.

Areas list

You will be able to see the content are that you have created in the list of your contents.

You can edit them whenever you want. See more on how to Edit dynamic content https://mdirector.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204837041-Editing-dynamic-content

3. Including dynamic content in the Email campaigns.

Once you have created the area containing the dynamic content, we then need to include it in the Email.

  • If you want to insert it into a new email, click on the button Create Campaign and follow the steps until you reach the step called Edition.
  • OR if you want to insert it in an Email that has already been created, click on Campaigns and edit the corresponding email. Again Follow the steps until you reach the step called Edition.

When you are editing the content, you have different ways to insert the dynamic content depending on the editor you are using. You must edit the content you want to be dynamic and then select the dynamic content you created. You will see that the content is replaced by the corresponding code. You can see how to include it in each editor:
