Deactivating and removing flows

María Rico

As explained in other articles, in the Marketing Automation module of MDirector, we work with flows to automate email sends. For various reasons, we may want to temporarily deactivate a flow to stop automations, but we might also want to delete it permanently if we are completely sure that we will never need it again and that we do not need access to its associated data either.

How to deactivate a flow

By default, when we create a flow, it appears in draft status until we decide it is ready to start running. The process to deactivate it is the same as the one we followed to activate it. This can be done from two places: from the list or within the flow itself.

From the list

Locate the card of the flow you want to deactivate, click on the action arrow next to the "Edit" button, and select "Deactivate."

A confirmation window will appear. Here, you need to click "Deactivate the flow" to proceed, understanding that this means no new contacts will be able to enter the flow until you reactivate it, and all contacts currently in the flow will be removed from it.

You will notice that the status of the card has changed—where there was previously a green "Active" label above the title, there is now a red "Inactive" label.

From the flow

If you are already on the flow editing page, you will see a toggle switch with the two flow states: "Active" and "Inactive." To deactivate the flow, simply click this switch.

Just like in the list view, a confirmation window will appear explaining the implications. Here, you must click "Deactivate flow" if you are sure.

You will see that the status has changed to inactive.

How to delete a flow

If you want to permanently delete a flow, this action can only be performed from the list. To do so, locate the corresponding flow card, click the arrow that opens the action menu (next to the "Edit" button), and select "Remove."

A confirmation window will appear explaining the consequences—once deleted, you will no longer have access to its report, and all associated data will be removed. Additionally, if the flow is active, this action will also have all the implications mentioned earlier when deactivating. If you are sure about your decision, click "Delete the flow" to confirm. Once completed, you will see that the flow is no longer present in the list.
